My neighbor, Horace Barrett of Winston-Salem, turns 100 on December 7, Pearl Harbor Day.

Author’s Talk
Horace, now 100, and the late Gloria Barrett visited 50 countries during their 73-year marriage; a 19-year-old Horace volunteered as a paratrooper in World War II, and was decorated for his service including jumping into France before dawn to begin the allies’ D-Day invasion; later he served in the honor guard at supreme allied headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany; Horace with his Purple Heart (3-clusters) and Bronze Star (1-cluster) in 2014, the 70th anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 1944.
