Author’s Talk
Tonya Penrose
Hello to everyone. I’m author Tonya Penrose and full disclosure it’s my pen name. I’ve been asked to share a bit about my journey as an author with you. I always think the beginning is a good place to start a telling. Let’s see. I was around six years old when I wrote my first book with illustrations. I made it using construction paper and judging by my parent’s expressions over my drawing attempts, I knew focusing on writing was the best direction. You know, I’d better fast forward a few decades otherwise I will run out of alloted words.
I found my way back to writing when typewriters became obsolete. I lacked the desire or speed to sit a keyboard and hold eraser tape in one hand for constant corrections needed. Once a computer found my lap, I was off to the races as a writer. I penned numerous stories that surprised me by being published in anthologies,
e-magazine, local press, and literary magazines. With a dash of confidence, I kept writing. When my writers group insisted one of my short stories needed to be a novel, I rebelled. I didn’t have patience to sit that long with the same characters, but they all loved “Cassie” and became her champion. Alas, they wore me down and I penned my first book, Old Mountain Cassie: The Three Lessons. I’ve gotten to know my writing chair pretty well over the last few years, and I tell you a bit more at the end.
I’m pleased, well maybe not pleased, more like compelled to share my unfortunately true story featured in Curious Stuff. After this incident, I felt incited and ignited to pen a call to action to renounce zippers. I pose this heartfelt question. Can’t someone invent a better, more dependable, attractive means to secure a garment? The story, “Zippers Away,” needed to be shared. It’s my public service to all women out there. You can thank me by reading my books and writing amazingly kind reviews.
Okay, to close, I have five novels available for purchase at Amazon and other booksellers, including my most recent multi-genre book, Welcome to Charm, out summer 2022. My 6th book that is part of the Shell Isle Mystery Series, Numbers Call a Murder is in editing with the publisher.
I’m a member of Poets and Writers. I invite you to visit: www.tonyawrites.com. You can learn more about my stories that might tickle your fancy. And, please don’t be shy about telling your friends and family about my books. —Tonya Penrose
