"Southern Lineage" by Grace Ellis
what was “proper” and what was “common”
A North Carolina writer and playwright examines the stage on which generations of her family have played out their Southern penchant for rules and expectations.
Grace Ellis is a playwright, poet, and author of creative nonfiction living in Winston-Salem. She has participated in Winston-Salem Writers’ open mic nights and Poetry in Plain Sight. She also moderates the Winston-Salem Writers Script Group. She has seen dozens of her plays performed—many at the Greensboro Playwrights Forum Evenings of Short Plays. In 2020 she will be teaching a playwriting class at The Little Theater of Winston-Salem and helping residents at Arbor Acres and Salemtown to devise their own plays.
